Welcome to Bridgeway Church’s annual 21 day fast to kick off another great year of God moving and asking us to join Him in His expression of love for Greenville, the nation, and the globe. Our 2019 corporate fast will go from Jan. 6th – Jan. 27th . This year, we will do some things differently by focusing on the true corporate nature of our fast as a church body.

First, we are asking everyone to focus on the same theme of: surrender (“nevertheless” as in Luke 22:39-42). If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times at Bridgeway: we are to die to ourselves and obey as the only true metric for friendship with God. Also, each week we will focus our prayers on others. After all, our spiritual formation is for the sake of others, as Jesus said, Love God and love others. During the week, we are inviting those who are able to join us in the sanctuary for prayer each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12:30pm-1pm.

During these 21 days we will be using the Revised Common Lectionary as a scripture guide for reading and prayer. This will connect us as a body and globally, as believers all over the world use the Lectionary in the same way. Weekly updates will keep us all on the same schedule. If you have (or want to get your own copy of the Revised Common Lectionary) we are on schedule C. Otherwise, we will include the weekly scripture passages in our updates.

Consider prayerfully what you will fast these 21 days. Listen closely to Holy Spirit – He led us to start the annual fast and He will lead us if we let Him. Do what you can to make it something food related. And, make sure you create time for some silence and solitude. Yes, this is highly corporate, but it is also uniquely individual and personal.

Remember...surrender is our theme. Over the 21 days, we will weekly focus on the globe, the nation, and Greenville. You can look for each week to provide you a guided flow of reading and prayer. Each day, we will provide a daily scripture where we will also have a Psalm of focus and a Psalm for worship. Each day, focus on Him, get alone and silent at least once and connect corporately at least once.

Week 2

January 13-19

As we move into our 2nd week of the fast, let us center ourselves again on the corporate nature of it. See 2 Chronicles 20:1-4 where King Jehoshaphat called a nationwide fast...and the people responded. They came together for one purpose to seek the Lord. We are together seeking the Lord under the theme of surrender - nevertheless. As we pray for our country this week, join us as we ask God where and how we can continue to respond to His plans with, "nevertheless, not my will but Yours."
